Head Coach: Bill Shaw
After two years as an assistant coach with the Twins, Bill Shaw will take over the
reigns of Head Coach of the Derby Twins in 2008. Bill was instrumental in helping
the Twins capture the Jayhawk League championship in 2007. Coach Shaw has
coached 3 sports in all of his 32 years of teaching: Football, Girls Basketball,
and Baseball. He has coached in 10 state championship games being a part of
4 state titles. As an assistant football coach, Coach Shaw was a part of the
1982 4A State Championship football staff at Wellington and the 1994 6A State Championship
football staff at Derby. As head baseball coach at both Wellington and
Derby, Coach Shaw’s teams won the 4A State Baseball Championship in 1995 in Wellington
and the 6A State Baseball Championship in 2001 at Derby Coach Shaw’s 1996 baseball
team at Wellington was the 4A State runnerup. Coach Shaw has been named Kansas
Coach of the Year in baseball twice in Wellington in class 4A and 6A Coach of the
Year in 2001 in Derby. Coach Shaw’s most prestigious honor was being named
District 5 Baseball Coach of the Year in 2001 being selected from all baseball coaches
in Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa, and South Dakota.
Coach Shaw is also the defensive backfield coach for Friends University. Friends
has won the KCAC league championship and participated in the NAIA playoffs the last
two years.
2008 marks Coach Shaw’s 32nd year of teaching. Coach Shaw began
his teaching and coaching at Ingalls High School in Ingalls, Kansas for 2 years,
followed by 19 years at Wellington, and currently is in his 10th year
at Derby High School.
Coach Shaw has been married to his wife Marilyn for 33 years. He has two children:
Daughter - Amy (30) and Son – Linn (27).
Assistant Coach: Eric Fischer
Eric Fischer will be will be joining the Twins in 2008 as an assistant coach. Eric
will work with the Twin’s hitters and defense. Eric is currently an assistant coach
for Emporia State University where he works with the hitters and infielders. His
playing career included playing for Millard West High School in Omaha from 1998-2002,
where he played in two state championships and hit .370 as a senior and earned all-state
honors. He went on to play at Butler County C.C. where he earned All-Jayhawk Juco
conference honors as a shortstop in 2002. He went on to Emporia State where he hit
.300, helped ESU win the MIAA , and Central Region Championship. He played for ESU
in the 2006 NCAA Div. II World Series. He suffered a career ending injury in 2007
and entered the coaching ranks in 2008.
Pitching Coach: Zane Ehling
Zane Ehling will be the Twin’s pitching coach in 2008. Currently in his second season
as the pitching coach at NCAA Div. II Newman University, Zane will manage our pitching
staff through the tough Jayhawk league season. For the past two summers, he has
been the pitching coach for the Newton Rebels, who finished 7th in the 2006 NBC
World Series. Zane played for the Newman Jets in 2006 where he was part of the MCAC
championship team. Prior to Newman, he played at Bethany College for one year and
Butler County C.C. for two years. Ehling is originally from Hutchinson KS and graduated
from Hutchinson High School.
